Following is the
information you requested for 1) City Hotel and Car rental taxes and 2) Visitors
to the Downtown.
Tax Revenues for the City (downtown) portion of Hotels & Motel taxes for, 12
months of data ending in March 2009, were
$2,446,661 million. This
represents a 24.5% increase from the previous year. Car rental tax revenues for
2007-08 were $17,117,000 million
(Citywide). Car rental taxes in the Downtown are not available.
Below are 2009 attendance numbers for the Convention Center and Venues only. We
confirmed that the tourism numbers for Downtown are not available.

1. Note: number of
non convention and theater attendees is not tourists but residents
of the Phoenix metro area. 2. Note: Tax Revenues for the City (downtown) portion of Hotels & Motel taxes for, 12 months of data ending in March 2009, were $2,446,661 million. This indicates visitors to downtown are not staying in downtown hotels. 3. Car rental tax revenues for 2007-08 were $17,117,000 million (Citywide). This supports the assumption visitors are not staying in the Phoenix Downtown. 4. Therefore the assumption convention delegates do not stay in downtown hotels but use car rentals to drive to the Phoenix Convention Center and then leave after the day's session back to hotel located outside the City of Phoenix is statistically supported. 5. Even if all convention delegates were lodged in the Phoenix Downtown, less than 218,175 actually visited the Phoenix Convention Center in the first half of 2009. |
